With a creative spark and a love for vintage and objects with a history, designing a line of jewelry with those key elements feels like a natural expression for the maker, Rikki. After a decade of working a day job and running her own business, she recently took the plunge and made her passion her full time gig. It all began in 2009 by happenstance- making a necklace for a loved one, that quickly grabbed attention from others who wanted one of their own. The creative path that she had always been searching for was beginning to unfold, and soon she was hand making an entire line of jewelry. First selling at local markets, then to shops in Winnipeg, and from there to businesses across Canada, spanning from Vancouver to Ottawa and north to Churchill. Earlier this year she also found a new home for her business in an open studio space, sharing it with some fellow Winnipeg makers in the heart of the Exchange district. Focusing on using repurposed vintage treasures and other natural materials, Rikki carefully cuts, saws and polishes her days away in her lofty light filled studio. The results are effortless jewelry with a unique and unexpected mix of modern shapes with a time worn nod to the past.
